The lending library decides whether a renewal is allowed or not. Sometimes we receive books from libraries that will not allow renewals. This will be noted when you receive an email that an item is ready to check out, and will also be printed on the book band. Sometimes we request a renewal and the lending library still replies no; we will do our best to get a renewal for you.

We (EWU Libraries) send the renewal request on to the lending library. Sometimes it takes a few days to receive a reply from the lender.
Remember that renewals are at the discretion of the lending library and sometimes the answer is no, even though a renewal request has been submitted. We will try our best for you!
If the answer is no: You will receive an email saying that the renewal request has been denied.
If the answer is yes: You will receive an email with the new due date.
You can only submit a renewal request starting one week before the due date. Once a book is overdue, renewals are no longer possible to request online - if you still need an extension, please contact the ILL department and they will request a renewal for you.
Sometimes you might notice that after you have asked for a renewal that the due date was changed to a later date and then is changed back again. That’s because we need to temporarily change the due date to the date we are asking for, and sometimes the lending library changes it to a different due date.
