RefWorks & Generating a Citation

The library subscribes to RefWorks, an online bibliographic citation management system that is integrated into the library databases and the EWU Library Catalog. You'll need to create a personal account in RefWorks. It's quite useful but there is a bit of a learning curve. Within RefWorks, click Help then Tutorial to view short videos.

Most of the library databases and the EWU Library Catalog have built-in citation functions. Look for Cite or a quotation mark icon where the print/email/save functions are.

RefWorks (Legacy System)
Online bibliographic citation manager. After registration, use this program to import references from research databases into folders, then format them in any of more than 100 citation styles.

You can also export citations from your folders directly into your research paper, or use them to instantly create a list of works cited, by downloading a module of this program called "Write'N'Cite". Use the "help" screens, or view the online tutorial, for more specific instructions.

Open Source Citation Management Systems

Zotero
Free, open-source citation management system. Desktop versions and plug-ins for browsers. Lots of built-in help under Documentation.
Mendeley Reference Manager
Free reference manager (online and desktop versions), plus some social networking tools for academics. Sponsored by Elsevier.
