Key EWU Databases for Physical Therapy Research

  • EBSCO Multiple Database Search
This is a customized (and customizable) option within the EBSCO system, which allows simultaneous searching of the following databases: Academic Search Complete, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Health Source, and SPORTDiscus. A good option for broadly searching a wide variety of resources. For more focused searching choose one of the databases below.
  • PubMed @ EWU (National Library of Medicine)
Comprehensive index to all aspects of medicine, covering about 5000 journals, back to 1948. PubMed is made available for free by the National Library of Medicine; note, however, that the above link connects PubMed to the EWU library system for greater ease of access to local full-text resources. Look for the "EWU - Check for Full Text" button within individual PubMed records. See MEDLINE, below, for alternative access to PubMed content.
  • Physical Therapy Journals (Ovid)
Full text articles from the following physical therapy journals: American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Clinical Journal of Pain, Exercise & Sport Sciences Reviews, Clinical Orthopaedics & Related Research, International Journal of Rehabilitation Research, Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation & Prevention, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, Neurology, Pediatric Physical Therapy, Spine and Stroke.
  • CINAHL with Full Text (EBSCO)
Comprehensive database for nursing and allied health, with full text articles from around 325 journals and trade magazines, and indexing to over 2700 titles, back to 1981. (A few titles are indexed even earlier, back to 1937.) Also includes citations to books, dissertations, and conference proceedings.
  • SPORTDiscus (EBSCO)
This database offers comprehensive, bibliographic coverage of sport, fitness and related disciplines. With full bibliographic coverage, monographs dating back to 1949, and journal coverage to 1975, this database contains over 565,000 records and over 200,000 dissertations and theses. The content also consists of multidisciplinary, international references from journal and magazine articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings and more.
  • Cochrane Library

Portal to access six databases for evidence-based medicine. Cochrane Reviews are available full text back to the mid 1990s, while others are indexes. Click on "i" icon for more information.
  • MEDLINE (EBSCO)
Comprehensive index to all aspects of medicine, covering around 5000 journals, back to 1948; free expanded version available called PubMed (see above). The advantage of searching MEDLINE via EBSCO is that you can concurrently search it with other EBSCO databases such as CINAHL.
  • Web of Science -- 1995-present (sciences); 1992-present (social sciences)
Indexes articles and analyzes citations from over 8,500 scientific journals back to 1995, and another 3,000 social sciences journals back to 1992.

  • PubMed--WSU-specific

Comprehensive index to all aspects of medicine, covering around 5000 journals, back to 1948. PubMed is maintained and made freely available by the National Library of Medicine. It includes all MEDLINE content, plus additional selected biomedical sources. This link to PubMed has been customized for those affiliated with WSU; look for the "Find it @WSU" button within individual records.
  • Web of Science and BIOSIS Previews

WSU's subscription to Web of Science indexes and analyzes citations from over 5,700 scientific journals back to 1980 (15 years further back than EWU's subscription) and includes access to Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities material in addition to Physical Science & Medicine.

BIOSIS Previews® covers life sciences and biomedical research including pre-clinical and experimental research, methods and instrumentation, animal studies, and more. (1969-present)
