This guide is being left up for legacy purposes, but it is no longer being updated. The current version of our source evaluation method (The WHY Method) and accompanying resources and materials is available at https://research.ewu.edu/thewhymethod
This draft, which expands upon Leeder, Markey and Yakel's original taxonomy, and our own modified draft of that taxonomy (both of which were published in the articles linked below), contains more of our scope notes and clarifications than the simplified draft in our presentation handout.
The presentation handout is designed more for use in instruction with students. This draft would be more helpful to librarians/instructors attempting to use the taxonomy for assessment/research purposes.
The taxonomy we use was published in its original form by Chris Leeder, Karen Markey, and Elizabeth Yakel in this article, which appeared in Volume 73, Number 2 of College & Research Libraries in 2012.
