Making a Claim for Literary Analysis
Literary analysis relies on the use of quotations and or paraphrasing from a text to provide evidence and examples for that analysis. This presentation will guide you through the process of:
- Coming up with a claim
- Writing an appropriate thesis or topic sentence to state that claim for the essay or for a body paragraph
- Finding appropriate examples from a text to quote or paraphrase
- How to insert those quotes into your own writing
- How to add your own analysis to explain how the quote(s) demonstrate your claim
