Black History Month 2021: Black is Beautiful

The 2021 theme for Black History Month at EWU is “Black Is Beautiful,” a slogan emerging from an era where Black Americans continued to question assumptions about the worth of Black culture and Black bodies.

These online resources provide some information about the history of Black students and the Africana Studies program from 1969-2009. Please note that Eastern's Black history runs much longer as its first African American student was Marjorie Boyd Wellington, who graduated in 1935.
