I Want Scholarly Articles from a Specific Disciplinary Perspective

Once you have determined what discipline is doing the research for your issue, you will want to explore an article database that is designed for that discipline. SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new window
While this is a sociology database, it is very useful for a lot of issues dealing with people as a group, since it covers social work, social psychology, addiction, and criminal justice as well. Full text for 890 journals dating back as far as 1908, with selective text and abstracts for over 3500 others going back as far as 1895, plus numerous books, conference papers, and other monographs.
PsycInfo - APA (EBSCOhost) -- 1806-present This link opens in a new window
This is the most comprehensive database for psychology. Indexes over 2,500 journals (in dozens of languages) going back to the 1800s, plus selected book chapters, books, and dissertations.

While we have a number of health science databases, this one is very useful for 201 students, because it offers a number of full text articles and isn't as overwhelming and frustrating to use as some others (MEDLINE or CINAHL). Full-text articles from over 500 journals, plus indexing for another 300 journals. Includes the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide.

Good for a range of children's issues. Covers over 1500 journals and magazines (750 titles in full text), along with full-text books and conference papers. Coverage dates vary, but a few titles go back to 1975.
SPORTDiscus with Full Text (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new window
Database for sports, fitness, sports medicine, and physical education. Articles from journals and magazines going back to 1985. Also includes selective indexing for around additional journals, plus assorted books and conference proceedings.
Communication & Mass Media Complete (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new window
Scholarly articles, trade publications and more in the fields of communications, mass media and related subjects. Selected core titles are indexed back to the first issue.
Business Source Complete (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new window
Articles from periodicals (including peer-reviewed journals) on all aspects of business. Contains books, plus reports, papers and company profiles. Selected titles go back as far as 1886, but most begin in the 1990s.
