The Brookings Institution is a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, DC. Our mission is to conduct in-depth research that leads to new ideas for solving problems facing society at the local, national and global level.

To achieve greater stability and civility in cyberspace, the Carnegie Cyber Policy Initiative develops strategies and policies in several key areas and promotes international cooperation and norms by engaging key decisionmakers in governments and industry.

The Cyber Policy Portfolio focuses on building cyber capacity and expertise among policymakers by publishing in-depth policy research, conducting cyber simulation exercises and convening high-level meetings.

Technology allows individuals and organizations access to more comprehensive and diverse information, but this access requires that electronic information, networks, data repositories, and data transmissions be adequately safeguarded. RAND has developed a large body of research focused on recognizing the potential threats to information security and data integrity, as well as implications for personal and institutional privacy.

Cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly central facet of national security strategy. Within this realm, CSIS’s work covers cyber warfare, encryption, military cyber capacity, hacking, financial terrorism, and more. Our programs leading the research on this topic include the Strategic Technologies Program and the International Security Program.
