Subject-Specific, Scholarly Journal Article Databases
There are a whole host of subject-specific article databases for you to delve deeper in your research. You will want to explore an article database that is designed for that discipline. If you do not see an appropriate database for your discipline, go to Browse All Subject Guides for a complete list. Or if you know the name of the database you want to search, go to A-Z Databases.
Sociology, Psychology, & Related Social Sciences
- SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowDatabase for sociology, with solid coverage for social work, social psychology, addictions, and criminal justice issues. Full text for journals dating back as far as 1908, with selective text and abstracts for others going back as far as 1895, plus numerous books, conference papers, and other monographs.
- PsycInfo - APA (EBSCOhost) -- 1806-present This link opens in a new windowA large and comprehensive index of peer-reviewed psychology journals, plus selected book chapters, books, and dissertations, in some cases back to the 1800's. Produced by the American Psychological Association.
- Criminal Justice Abstracts with Full Text (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowArticles from criminal justice magazines and journals, with indexing/abstracting from others.
- LGBTQ+ Source (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowArticles from journals, magazines, and books, along with indexing from hundreds more. Dates of coverage vary by title, but some go back to the mid-1950s/1960s.
- Communication & Mass Media Complete (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowScholarly articles, trade publications and more in the fields of communications, mass media and related subjects. Selected core titles are indexed back to the first issue.
- Urban Studies Abstracts (EBSCOhost) -- 1973-present This link opens in a new windowIndexes journals and magazines covering urban studies, community development, urban history, and related fields.
Health & Medicine
- Health Source - Nursing/Academic Edition (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowAccess to journals, magazines, and more, plus additional indexing. Includes the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide.
- MEDLINE (EBSCOhost) -- 1946-present This link opens in a new windowComprehensive index to all aspects of medicine, covering journals and some titles include full-text.
- Cochrane Library This link opens in a new windowClick on Cochrane Reviews to see if there is an analysis of the studies done on X medical issue. Very useful to determine best treatments for X.
- SPORTDiscus with Full Text (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowDatabase for sports, fitness, sports medicine, and physical education. Articles from journals and magazines going back to 1985. Also includes selective indexing for around additional journals, plus assorted books and conference proceedings.

- Education Research Complete (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowJournals and magazines along with books and conference papers. Coverage dates vary, but a few titles go back to 1975.
Environmental Issues
- GreenFILE (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowIndexes journals and magazines (along with selected books, pamphlets and government reports) relating to human impacts on the environment.
- Scopus This link opens in a new windowIndexes articles and analyzes citations from 20,000+ journals in the sciences and social sciences back to 1970, though some are as far back as 1788. Search this database in lieu of Web of Science.
Computer Science & Technology
- ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Digital Library This link opens in a new windowArticles from ACM journals and magazines back to the 1950s, plus conference proceedings and Guide to Computing Literature that has non-ACM journals, proceedings, and reports back to 1985.
- IEEE Xplore (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) This link opens in a new windowArticles from journals, conference proceedings, and IEEE standards. Full coverage is back to 1988, with selected coverage back to 1893.
