English 490: Literature at the Crossroads

Back files of core scholarly journals in the arts, business, humanities, sciences, and social sciences, from the first issue up to 3-5 years ago.

Full-text articles from around 100 literature journals, along with over 600 open access books. Similar to JSTOR, the default is to keyword search the entire article or book, and includes historical content.

Comprehensive database for literature and languages, plus folklore, drama and rhetoric. Indexes over 5,000 journals, plus books and dissertations.

I have found the Library Catalog's collection of articles to be the best source for finding criticism of films or television. There are a number of open access ejournals related to pop culture that it "captures." Quality will vary more than in a database such as JSTOR, but if you know your film/tv show, I bet you are a good judge of their analysis.
Check the box Include results with no full text to see articles you can interlibrary loan.

While this is mainly a source for fairly detailed biographical information and the standard interpretation of works, they do occasionally include journal articles, especially historical ones. It's interesting to see how a work has been interpreted over time.

Use Google Scholar to search for scholarly articles across the Web (this can be a good complement to subscription databases). Note the citation tracking feature.
