Since there's no built-in search engine, use this Google Advanced Search. Just erase EWU and put in your own search terms. - African American VoiceThe African American Voice was a Black-run newspaper covering news in Spokane and Pullman from 1996-2000.
Researching Historical Issues/Events

- Google News ArchiveMix of historical newspapers Google scanned with other scanning projects. Most are free. Includes several historical newspapers from the region, including various versions of the Spokesman-Review/Chronicle.
Can keyword search, just click the Search Archive button, or browse a particular newspaper by date. - Ice Age Floods Institute Records, SPC 013-0708The Ice Age Floods Institute promoted education about the Ice Age floods that shaped the Pacific Northwest. These records include field guides, which identify landforms resulting from the floods and records about the organizations efforts for recognition of an Ice Age Floods Historic Trail.
- Otis Freeman Papers, SPC 988-0293Dr. Otis Freeman taught geography and geology at Eastern from 1924-1951 His papers include several photographs of geological formations in the region. Many of his photographs of the Channeled Scablands may be found online at: https://dc.ewu.edu/freeman.
- The Fair and the Falls: Spokane’s Expo ’74: Transforming an American Environment, by J. William T. Youngs, T902 1974. B1 Y68 1996While Dr. Youngs’ book focuses on Expo ’74, it provides a historical background detailing the relationship between the city of Spokane and the Spokane River. Youngs’ citations may be useful in locating primary sources.
- Spokane’s Building Blocks, Robert B. Hyslop, F899.S7 H93Spokane’s Building Blocks provides a brief history of downtown blocks and buildings from the late-1800s to the early-1980s when the book was published.
