- Lonely Planet auf DeutschOffers basic information for free on their website, though of course they'd rather you buy their books
Newspapers or Media
Searching Google or Wikipedia for Zeitung [insert name of city] will very likely get you to the major local news sources. Then you can keyword search their websites.
Encyclopedias
If you end up choosing an important cultural city, site, or event, you may be able to find a traditional encyclopedia entry on it, to verify what you found online. But the English language sources aren't ones that you want to use and cite.
