Primary Sources

For books

Autobiographies or memoirs

Try keywords of the artist's name and biography. Then limit the results to ones where the artist is the author. (Otherwise you could get a secondary source, a biography about your artist written by someone else. Library of Congress decided to put biographies and autobiographies under the same subject heading: Lastname, Firstname - biography.)

Interviews

Since the subject heading for books that contain interviews is: Lastname, Firstname -- interviews, just keyword search your artist's name and interview.

Books with Lots of Images

Add the phrase "pictorial works" to your keyword search for books. That's the subject heading for books chocked full of photos, artwork, etc.

For articles

Try the phrase "interview with [firstname lastname]" (This works in Google as well.) If you don't get enough, then broaden to not an exact phrase, but just the keyword interview and [insert name].
