The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey intended to replace the long-form of the Decennial Census - in effect providing an annual long-form Census. It is an annual sample survey of about three million households. 1-year estimates are available annually for areas with a population of 65,000 or more. 3-year estimates are available annually for areas with 20,000 or more people, and areas with less than 20,000 people are covered by 5-year estimates. The first 5-year estimates were released in 2010.
