U.S. Census Materials Available Online
The 1990 United States Census of Population and Housing was the first census in which data was made available online by the U.S. Census Bureau. Currently, American Factfinder, the Census Bureau's primary interface for retireving demographic data, provides online access to data and maps at the national, state, county, MSA, tract, and block level for Census 2000 and Census 2010.

data.census.gov is the platform to access data and digital content from the U.S. Census Bureau. Data available include the Decennial Census, American Community Survey, Economic Census, and County Business Patterns. - American Community SurveyWhile American Community Survey (ACS) data is available in American FactFinder, this homepage of the ACS program has good descriptions of the survey, it's methodology, and how to interpret the data.
- 1990 Census DataThis is a link to the Census Bureau's FTP data archive. Go to the line item entitled census_1990/ to download data files from the 1990 Census. American FactFinder (AFF) only provides access to the two most recent censuses. Census 2010 has replaced the 1990 Census in AFF, so now this FTP download site is the only Census Bureau source for 1990 Census data.
- Population EstimatesGateway to the Census Bureau's population estimates program. Most data is at the national level.
- CenstatsIncludes updated building permit statistics
- Census ExplorerThe U.S. Census Bureau today released Census Explorer, a new interactive map that gives users easier access to neighborhood-level statistics. The map uses updated statistics from the 2008-2012 American Community Survey (ACS), also released today.
In addition to these characteristics, more than 40 American Community Survey social, economic and housing topics are now available through the Census Bureau’s data tool, American Factfinder. This includes the first release of local statistics for disability, marital history, VA service-connected disability, health insurance coverage, and year of naturalization.
