The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey intended to replace the long-form of the Decennial Census - in effect providing an annual long-form Census. It is an annual sample survey of about three million households. 1-year estimates are available annually for areas with a population of 65,000 or more. 3-year estimates are available annually for areas with 20,000 or more people, and areas with less than 20,000 people are covered by 5-year estimates. The first 5-year estimates were released in 2010.
While American Community Survey (ACS) data is available in American FactFinder, this homepage of the ACS program has good descriptions of the survey, it's methodology, and how to interpret the data.
The Census Bureau's primary interface for retireving data. Provides access to both Census 2000 and Census 2010, the American Community Survey, the Puerto Rico Community Survey, the Economic Census, the Population Estimates Program, and economic surveys such as the Annual Survey of Manufacturers, County Business Patters, and Nonemployer Statistics
