The best way ensure compliance with copyright restrictions or database vendor contracts is to link to the full text of articles in the library databases. To do so, find the persistent (aka permanent, stable or Permalink) URL and post it into your Canvas site. To make sure that the article is accessible from off-campus, it must go through our proxy server. The URL for our proxy server [https://ezproxy.library.ewu.edu/login?url=] must go in front of the persistent URL of the article. Some databases (e.g. Academic Search Complete) will automatically insert our proxy server URL in front of the persistent URL of the article. Other databases, like JSTOR, will not include the proxy server URL and thus you will have to manually insert it. For more detailed information on how to do it, see below for the link to the help sheet or contact the JFK reference desk [509-359-2263] for help.
Please contact Eastern Online for help with placing electronic content in Canvas. This includes textbook chapters and electronic copies of articles.
Would you like some guidance on copyright and fair use issues? Then use EWU's Copyright & Fair Use Research Guide. You will find useful information on common copyright and fair use topics. Plus each topic has contact information for the best person on campus who can help you (see the Get Help tab for a full list).
The Reference/Instruction Librarians at the JFK and Spokane Academic Libraries can provide instruction to your students on how to use library resources. This instruction can take a variety of forms, from face-to-face instruction to creating detailed online research guides for a specific class.
