Getting Items in the Library Catalog

Search the EWU Catalog for library materials

Our catalog contains not only EWU materials, but also items held by Summit Libraries (academic libraries throughout the region). See below for directions on how to order materials.

If an item is available from the EWU Libraries, then it will have green colored text indicating it's available.

  • eBooks:
    • Click the green text (it typically says Online access) to call up the record for the item.
    • Under the View Online section, you'll need to sign in using your campus Single Sign-On credentials.
    • Once logged in, you'll see links available to the eBook in the appropriate collection.
    • Some eBook collections may ask you to sign up for a free account before being able to read the eBook.
  • Physical items: The catalog will note the location (Cheney), floor and call number so you can locate the item (see below).
    • If you plan to visit the JFK Library in-person, then you can use these floor maps to find the item & check it out at the Circulation Desk (main level).

  • If you would like us to pull the book for you and keep it for you to pick up, then click on the title of the item you want to get.
    • Under the Get It section, log-in using your campus Single Sign-On credentials.
    • Click on Request EWU Item.
    • Under Pick-Up Location, select EWU Cheney.

  • You'll get an automated email (to your campus email) when the book is ready to be picked up at the circulation desk.
  • *Note: If the wording on the item you want is grayed out, it probably means that the EWU  item is checked out. You will have to request it from a Summit library (see below) or via Interlibrary Loan (if there is no copy available in Summit).

How do I get materials that aren't owned by the EWU Libraries?

  • As part of the Summit consortium, you can borrow materials from other academic libraries in our region.
  • Materials owned by Summit libraries will say "Check Request Options - Held by Summit Libraries".

  • To borrow them, click on the title of the item.
  • Under the Get It section, Sign In using your campus Single Sign-On credentials.
  • Click on the Place Summit Request (4-8 Days) link.
  • Choose your Pickup Location (Cheney) and submit the request.  You'll receive an automated E-mail notification when the item arrives.

For faculty not in the local area, please see the Distance Education part of this guide.

What if I still can't find what I need?

  • You can always complete an InterLibrary Loan request to have us find the materials you need.  It's a free service for EWU patrons.
